Job Function

The College Dean provides leadership and oversight across academic and administrative areas, including planning and implementation of policies, plans, and procedures; student experience; assessment of teaching and learning; program development and review; industry relations; community service; quality assurance; and overall college operations. The Dean provides strategic direction to promote innovative approaches to program delivery, increase research output and external funding, enhance the national and international profile of the College, and facilitate partnerships with relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee College operations (teaching and learning, research, and community services) to ensure the achievement of established goals, effective collection of relevant data, mitigation of potential risks, and fulfilment of assigned responsibilities.
  2. Ensure the effective implementation of institutional policies, procedures, regulations, and related key documents.
  3. Strengthen the College’s presence and visibility at regional and international levels.
  4. Develop and present proposals to the University’s supervisory bodies, and ensure effective communication, accurate understanding, and proper implementation of their decisions.
  5. Initiate plans and provide recommendations to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research in critical areas such as budgeting, staffing, workload allocation, program development, operational planning, teaching and learning, and accreditation.
  6. Ensure the recruitment, promotion, and retention of qualified staff.
  7. Oversee the development of distinctive academic programs aligned with labor market needs, manage the College’s academic program portfolio, and ensure academic excellence.
  8. Promote and maintain high academic standards and uphold student academic achievement by ensuring curriculum currency and effectively managing student academic matters, including probation, dismissal, complaints, and other related issues.
  9. Lead institutional and program accreditation activities and monitor program affiliations and accreditations in close coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  10. Oversee and support the College’s research profile, innovation initiatives, resource optimization, internationalization, and consultancy activities.
  11. Foster a healthy and supportive environment and a culture of intellectual discourse by sustaining innovative academic practices, streamlining administrative processes, and supporting interdisciplinary knowledge-sharing activities within the College and the wider community.
  12. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Line Manager.

Experience

  1. A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and research.
  2. Holding an academic rank of Associate Professor or higher.

A minimum of three years of experience in an academic supervisory or leadership position.

Skills

  1. Strong leadership and management skills aligned with the responsibilities of a Dean, including staff performance management.
  2. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with students, University staff, and external stakeholders (including professions, industry, and the wider community).
  3. A collegial and inclusive approach to leadership and management.

The ability to promote University values and reflect its service-oriented culture to internal and external communities.

Qualification

An earned Ph.D. from a recognized University.
