Job Function

To assist the research team in achieving the following objectives: 

  1. Review the theoretical framework and gather prior studies on the construction of adaptive tests, criterion-referenced tests, and the assessment of scientific research skills.
  2. Contribute to the development and piloting of the test item bank.
  3. Assist in administering the final version of the test to samples of Omani university students.
  4. Assist in analyzing the test application results and deriving its psychometric properties.
  5. Design the adaptive test using dedicated software or an online platform.
  6. Assist in writing the research papers for the project.
  7. Participating in regular meetings that take place monthly or once every two weeks, as is required in order to discuss readings related to the ongoing progress of the project, which the research supervisor assigns. 

Undertaking any other reasonable duties, including assisting with other projects.

Responsibilities

Master's degree in Educational & Psychological Measurement and Evaluation or related field.

Experience

  1. Proven experience in developing educational tests, item banks, and criterion-referenced assessments.
  2. Specialized knowledge of Item Response Theory (IRT) models and Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) design.
  3. High proficiency in psychometric analysis using R, Winsteps, and BILOG-MG (or similar IRT software).
  4. A solid understanding of scientific research skills as a construct for assessment at the university level.

Skills

The candidate must have the following skills and attributes: 

A. Core Technical & Research Expertise:

1. Proven experience in educational test development, item banking, and criterion-referenced assessment.

2. Specialized knowledge and applied skills in Item Response Theory (IRT) and Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT).

3. High proficiency in psychometric data analysis using specialized software such as R, Winsteps, and/or BILOG-MG/IRTPRO.

4. Strong academic writing skills, with the ability to contribute to research papers and technical reports.

B. Essential General Skills:

1. Excellent command of MS Word, MS Excel, and statistical packages (e.g., SPSS for preliminary analyses).

2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Arabic and English.

3. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

4. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills for effective collaboration within the research group.

Qualification

Master's degree in Educational & Psychological Measurement and Evaluation or related field.
