Job Function

The Research Assistant in energy and sustainability will primarily support the research efforts of the ESRC director. This role involves conducting literature reviews, gathering and analyzing data, assisting in developing research proposals, lab experimental setups, and contributing to disseminating research findings through publications and presentations.

Responsibilities

  1. Literature Review: Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to gather relevant information and identify gaps in existing research within the field of tourism and entrepreneurship.
  2. Data Collection and Analysis: Assist in the collection, organization, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate research methodologies and statistical techniques.
  3. Lab Supervision: Assist in supervising laboratory activities, ensuring safe and proper use of equipment, supporting data generation and experimental procedures, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with established protocols and safety standards
  4. Research Proposal Development: Collaborate with senior researchers to develop research proposals, including formulating research questions, designing methodologies, and outlining project timelines and deliverables.
  5. Publication Support: Contribute to the writing and editing of research papers, reports, and presentations for publication in academic journals, conference proceedings, and other scholarly outlets.
  6. Project Coordination: Coordinate Center activities, including scheduling meetings, arranging participant recruitment, managing research databases, and ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and research protocols.

Social Media and Outreach: Support the Center’s visibility by preparing brief research highlights, managing website and social media updates, and contributing to public engagement materials to disseminate research outcomes to stakeholders and the wider community.

Experience

Candidates should have a minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in academic research or applied research settings. This may include experience as a research assistant or similar role within academia or industry.

Skills

Advanced knowledge of theories, frameworks, and methodologies relevant to energy and sustainability research.

Proficiency in research design, data collection, and analysis techniques.

Familiarity with academic publishing standards and conventions

Qualification

  1. BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Energy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
  2. Strong academic background with demonstrated competence in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies relevant to energy, sustainability, or engineering systems.
  3. Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python) and data analytics/visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, MATLAB).
  4. Research writing experience (preferred): Demonstrated ability to contribute to technical reports and peer-reviewed publications; prior publications in reputable journals will be an advantage.
  5. Hands-on research skills, including experimental design, laboratory work (where applicable), data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  6. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary research environments.
  7. Demonstrated interest in energy transition, sustainability, or net-zero technologies is highly desirable.
