Job Function

The Research Assistant will support advanced research activities in environmental engineering, with a particular focus on water and wastewater treatment technologies. The role involves integrating experimental investigations with data-driven approaches, including machine learning and process optimization, to develop innovative and sustainable treatment solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, and optimize laboratory experiments related to water and wastewater treatment processes (e.g., electrocoagulation, advanced oxidation processes).
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including reactors, analytical instruments (e.g., UV–Vis spectrophotometer), and electrochemical systems.
  • Collect, process, and analyze experimental data, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and proper documentation.
  • Develop and implement machine learning and/or deep learning models for predictive analysis and process optimization.
  • Perform statistical analysis and interpret results to support research objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of integrated experimental–computational frameworks.
  • Prepare technical reports, research papers, and conference presentations.
  • Assist in supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students involved in the project.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and environmental regulations.

Support grant writing and research dissemination activities when required.

Experience

  • The candidate must have a strong research background in wastewater treatment with a focus on  electrochemical oxidation with excellent publication record in high impact factor journals.
  • Demonstrated strong hands-on wet chemistry skills and sample preparation knowledge. 

Skills

The candidate must have the following skills and attributes: 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in handling and interpreting large datasets.
  • Proficiency in scientific writing and publication.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.

Attention to detail and commitment to research quality.

Qualification

  • PhD in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong background in water and wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in experimental research and laboratory work.
  • Knowledge of advanced treatment processes such as electrocoagulation, AOPs, or similar.
  • Experience with data analysis and modelling tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar).

Familiarity with machine learning techniques is highly desirable.
