Job Function

The available position is for a Research Assistant to work on a research project entitled “Artificial Intelligence-Powered Solutions for Reliable 5G and Beyond Communication Networks with Massive IoT Applications in Smart Cities” funded by the Research and Innovation Authority (RIA) of the Sultanate of Oman under the Block Funding Program, Agreement No. MoHERI/BFP/ASU/2025 and project ID BFP/RGP/ICT/25/501. 

Responsibilities

To assist the Principal Investigator (PI) of the project in achieving the following objectives: 
* To develop efficient AI-Based techniques for mobility robustness optimization techniques for 6G cellular networks in smart cities. 
* To design smart handover decision algorithm powered by AI and Big Data Analysis model to make efficient handover decision automatically.
* To develop dynamic load-balancing algorithm leveraging AI to efficiently distribute traffic and optimize resource utilization in heterogeneous networks.
* To design AI-powered solutions to optimize transmitted power for offering efficient cells’ coverage that lead to smooth connectivity during the movements of massive connected users and IoT devices.
* To integrate AI technology innovatively to improve the performance of handover, connectivity, network capacity, and traffic management techniques in ultra-dense networks.
 

Experience

Candidates with experience in programming, wireless communications, simulation tools, AI applications, or research-related activities will have an advantage.

Skills

The candidate must have the following skills and attributes: 
* Good background in wireless communication systems and networking.
* Basic knowledge in artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts.
* Good programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or similar platforms.
* Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Good academic writing and communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively within a research team.
* Willingness to learn and conduct independent research activities.
* Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and related software tools.
* Self-motivation with minimal supervision. 
 

Qualification

BSc in Wireless Communication Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, or any related discipline.
