Job Function

The available position is for a Research Assistant to work on a research project, where expertise in the area of Machine learning and Deep learning are required. 

This research aims to design an enhanced heavily occluded face detection model which is capable of detecting faces in a high degree of occlusion as in faces covered with niqab. The degree of occlusion in faces with niqab ranges from 50% to 90% and more where most of the features are hidden. 

The objectives of this research are as follows: 

  1. To develop an occluded face detection dataset that takes into account the properties of heavily covered faces suitable to be used for deep-learning face detection training and evaluation.
  2. To design a contextual-based deep learning scheme for enhancing the representative features with an improved feature extraction network of the heavily covered faces to improve the detection performance

To introduce a deep-learning-CNN face detection model capable of detecting faces in a high degree of occlusion where most of the face is veiled in unconstrained environment.

Responsibilities

To assist the Principal Investigator (PI) of the project in achieving the following objectives: 

Research Contribution:

  • Assist in conducting cutting-edge research projects focusing on Machine Learning and Deep Learning under the guidance of senior researchers.
  • Contribute actively to the research process, including data collection, analysis, experimentation, and interpretation of results.
  • Collaborate closely with the research team, participating in regular meetings and discussions to advance project objectives.

Technical Expertise:

  • Apply expertise in Machine Learning and Deep Learning methodologies to address research challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Utilize programming languages and tools commonly used in the field to implement and test algorithms and models.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in Machine Learning and Deep Learning, incorporating new techniques and approaches as appropriate.

Publication Support:

  • Assist in preparing research findings for publication in academic journals, conferences, and other relevant platforms.

Contribute to the writing, editing, and proofreading of research papers, reports, and presentations.

Experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting research in Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Preference given to experience in face detection methodologies, algorithms, and applications. 

Proven track record of publishing research findings in reputable journals, conferences, or workshops related to AI and face detection.

  • Excellent academic writing skills. 
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.   
  • Proficiency in using MS Word or LaTeX editors.   

Self-motivation with minimal supervision.

Qualification

A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or a related field.

Preference for specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Face Detection during doctoral studies.
