Job Function
The technician will be responsible for maintaining and managing the college’s computer lab facilities with a focus on cyber security. This role includes ensuring the security and integrity of the systems and networks, supporting students and faculty, and integrating cyber security practices into the academic environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain university computer labs by ensuring hardware and software are up-to-date, systems function efficiently, and inventory is well-managed.
- Implement and enforce cyber security measures such as firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
- Provide technical support to students, faculty, and staff on cyber security issues.
- Assist faculty members to integrate cyber security concepts into lab activities and curricula.
- Assist in the development and delivery of cyber security training modules and workshops.
- Support research projects involving cyber security by providing technical expertise and resources.
- Manage and optimize the lab's network infrastructure to ensure secure access and connectivity.
- Maintain detailed documentation of lab procedures, security incidents, and maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with university IT and cyber security teams to align with overall security strategies.
- Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in cyber security through continuous learning and professional development.
Any other duties assigned by the Dean.
Experience
- Previous experience in a technical support role, preferably in an academic or computer lab setting.
Experience with cyber security tools and practices.
Skills
- Ability to organize and maintain the laboratory.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Advanced interpersonal verbal and written communications skills.
- Competence in IT skills
- Proficiency with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS).
- Knowledge of networking concepts and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with cyber security tools such as firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
Understanding of security protocols and best practices.
Qualification
A holder of a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science, or a related field from a recognized University.
